| Winning start by J&K in Santosh Trophy | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 31: Jammu and Kashmir made a winning start in the prestigious 68th Senior National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy after they blanked Uttar Pradesh 3-0 in the qualifying round of North Zone at Dr BR Ambedkar Stadium today. As per the reports reaching here, J&K took the early lead netting the ball in the sixth minute through Shahid Mushtaq, who converted a brilliant header. Skipper Asif Majeed gave the second breakthrough in 20th minute of the match to make it a 2-0 lead at the end of first half play. After the drinks break, Shahid and Prem played brilliant game but missed the chances came their way. Coming as a substitute, Toufeeq Ahmed added the third goal to the team's score in 80th minute of the match. Grabbing all three points in the first match, J&K will be playing against former Champion, Punjab on February 2. On the other hand, Punjab defeated Himachal Pradesh 2-1 in the first group match. Now, the Sunday's match between J&K and Punjab is considered as a decisive match of the group. |
