| Mir accuses Omar of indulging in double-speak | | Imbalanced Ganai panel report | | Neha Jammu, Jan 31: Tourism Minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir had on Thursday had accused Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of indulging in double-speak and speaking differently on the Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai panel report on new administrative units. In fact, he tore into Omar Abdullah and said that his stand on the Ganai report was not consistent. To make his point clear, he told a news agency that "Chief Minister Omar Abdullah shocked everyone, when just 3 days after giving extension to Cabinet Sub Committee to 'balance' the Mushtaq Ganai Committee Report, in a public rally at Samba, he claimed that some people did not want Ganai Committee report to be implemented in letter and spirit and were trying to scuttle it". "CSC was formed by Omar Abdullah. He gave 10 days time to the Committee comprised NC and Congress members. But, only after three days the Chief Minister at his Samba rally in Jammu claimed that some people are trying to scuttle the Ganai Committee report," he said. Mir even went to extent of saying that "Omar Abdullah gave nod to CSC only after he felt that Ganai report was not balanced. "CSC was formed by Omar Abdullah. "What was the fun of that statement when Chief Minister himself formed Cabinet Sub-Committee to balance the report about the creation of new administrative units? Chief Minister himself asserted that Ganai Committee report is imbalanced and needs to be balanced but to everybody's surprise, National Conference started blaming Congress party, forgetting that their members were the part and parcel of the CSC formed by Chief Minister," he was quoted as saying. He also disclosed that "even some of the NC leaders didn't appreciate Mushtaq Ganai Report". Mir justified his stand on Omar Abdullah and the Ganai panel report reportedly saying that "Ganai Committee in its report proposed a 'block status' for three 'halqas' while ignoring those blocks which comprised more than 10 'halqas" and that "in one of the meetings, even some NC leaders like Mir Saifullah felt that Mushtaq Ganai Committee Report is inconclusive and admitted that it is not balanced one". He also denied the report that the Congress was for the creation of "2100" new administrative units. "It is an exaggerated figure. Our demand is that all the three regions of the state should be given their share on equal basis," he was quoted as saying. Now that a Congress leader of the stature Ghulam Ahmed Mir has put everything in public domain, it is incumbent on the part of Omar Abdullah to explain his stand on the Ganai committee report in clear terms. He cannot speak differently on one issue at different places. It's a sensitive issue and it needs to be handled carefully considering the nature of the state as well as conflicting perceptions of the people inhabiting different regions. |
