| Army exaggerating security concerns, say Omar | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 31: Terming Army's security concerns an exaggeration, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he doesn't agree with the Army's view that there could be major fall out in the State after US led troops pull out from Afghanistan. "In part they (Army) exaggerate . This 2014 argument, about troops pull over, is being used so that AFSPA stays in the State," said Omar in an interview to an international news channel. Army has repeatedly said it is concerned about the developments in Afghanistan, and it's for this reason that it needs Armed Forces Special Powers Act. Only recently Army Chief General Bikram Singh has spoken about it. Omar Abdullah also didn't agree with the statement issued by most dangerous Al-Queda leader Al Zawahari, who had recently said next Jehad will be fought in the Kashmir. Omar made this argument in consistent with the line he has taken on the Armed Forces Special Powers Act. He had locked horns with the Army in the past about it without getting desired results and now he is going international about it. Omar is making the point also at a crucial time when Army had decided to close Pathribal encounter case based on the evidence. Army had reached the conclusion after thorough investigation but Omar said he is disappointed with decision. Many opine that CM who is at the fag end of his term is deliberately picking up points to confront Army and gain political mileage. |
