Abrogation of Article 370 a historical necessity: Prof Hari Om
2/8/2014 9:17:59 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 8: Expressing concern over the manner in which NC-Cong government rejected the BJP's resolution seeking discussion on Article 370 in the upcoming assembly session, Prof Hari Om, Political Advisor to Jugal Kishore Sharma, on Saturday said that since the NC and the Congress have nothing in the political dictionary to defend their stand on Article 370, they ensured the collapse of the resolution even before it could be taken up for discussion in the Legislative Assembly.
"It would have been better had the coalition government allowed a debate on Article 370 to find if it had benefited the state and its people, hastened the process of state's political and constitutional integration with India and helped democratizing the state's polity or if it had failed the state and its people", he said.
"By rejecting the BJP's resolution the NC-Congress coalition has only vindicated BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's December 1 Jammu stand that Article 370 had in no way helped the people of the state and only hampered the process of integration of the state with India," said Prof Hari Om.
He further added that the Kashmiri ruling elite, backed by fake secular Congress leadership in the state and at the centre, would not allow discussion on Article 370 because it would get thoroughly exposed if a debate would be held on it in or outside the state legislature.
"Article 370 has denied the people of the state of all those general political and economic rights which are available to the people across the country under the Indian Constitution. It has deprived the SCs, the STs, the OBCs, the refugees from West Pakistan, refugees from PoJK, the minorities and womenfolk of the rights which are available to their counterparts in the rest of the country," Prof. Hari Om said.
He urged the people of the state to speak in one voice against this atrocious provision of the Indian Constitution so that it is thrown out lock, stock and barrel.
"Abrogation of Article 370 is a historical necessity. Its repeal would ensure all-round development of the people of the state and regenerate their socio-cultural and politico-economic life, he said. He expressed the hope that all right-thinking people would join the BJP crusade against anti-people and anti-state Article 370.
