Police lathi-charge protesters demanding Tehsil status for Jindrah
10 protestors including women injured, 40 court arrest

Jammu, Feb 8: The state Police lathi-charged hundreds of residents of Domel to Manwal area, who were marching towards Jammu, demanding Tehsil status to Jindrah. About ten protesters including women were injured, who were allegedly beaten by the cops.
The residents have resentment over giving Tehsil status to 'Dansal' by removing Jindrah from the recommended list.
About 700 people of Domel to Manwal gathered at Jindrah and started their march towards Jammu, demandingTehsil status to Jindrah. When they reach near Darsoo village, about 12 Km from Jindrah, The state police stopped them and started Lathi-Charge, when the mob refused to stop.
About ten people including women got injured during lathi-Charge.
"We were moving towards Jammu, peacefully to protest against the government, demanding Sub-Divisional status to Jindrah, but Police and CRPF used force to stop us and beaten the protesters, including ladies,"said Roshan Lal, a resident of Jindrah.
"Jandrah area of district Jammu where Niabat exists for past 37 years and there was a long pending demand of people for Tehsil status but the CSC ignored the demand and instead gave Tehsil status to Nagrota and Dansal.," he added.
He further said that Jindrah was recommended by Mushtaq Committee as well as Baloria Committee, but it was later removed and Tehsil status has been given to Dansal.
Later the cops allowed the protestors to move upto Dansal, where 40 protestors court arrest.
The protestors were later released by the police in the evening.
Jandrah falls under Nagrota Assembly constituency of Jammu district, which is being represented by Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) state president Jugal Kishore Sharma in state Assembly. Sharma has strong vote base in Jandrah area and CSC didn't consider it for Tehsil status.
