| Shifting of Horticulture faculty will weaken fruit industry : Vakil | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 8 : Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today in a statement appealed the Chief Minister not to shift Horticulture Faculty from Wadura Campus and personally look into the matter and issue orders for constituting a Committee on the issue so that apprehensions of the all the stake holders are genuinely addressed as it would have negative consequences because the people of the north especially from District Baramulla and Sopore have taken it seriously. He said that shifting of Horticulture faculty to Shalimar will result in decline and weakening of the fruit industry in the State in view of the fact that said Sector is mainly centralized and spread in District Barmulla. Vakil expressed his grave concern over the move which will adversely affect the career of hundreds of students and scholars who are involved in carrying their research and allied works comfortably at Wadura because the subject related material and infrastructure is primarily and easily available in North Kashmir. He said more than five lakh people are associated with horticulture directly or indirectly and solely dependent on it for their livelihood such callous move towards this industry and people will leave them high and dry. Former Minister said that lawyers, intellectuals and students of Wadura College and Fruit Growers met me in this behalf and expressed their resentment in respect of shifting of Horticulture Faculty from Wadura to Shalimar Campus. They reiterated that the move is prima facie unjustified and aimed to satisfy the ego of handful persons having vested interest in the proposed shifting.
