Ray of Hope! Treatment for cancer patients at their doorsteps in Kashmir

Saluting the character of professionals who created history on the eve of World Cancer Day, under the leadership of professional human services characters of SKIMS Soura and Directorate of Health Services Kashmir people of every walk of life appreciated the collaborative efforts of professional expertise for giving kick start to cancer surgeries at the door step of patients suffering from the dreadful disease.
On one hand World Cancer Day was being observed globally on 4th of February 2014 to raise collective voices in the name of improving general knowledge around cancer and dismissing misconceptions about the disease while as on the other hand history was created by collaborative leadership qualities of SKIMS and DHSK in serving the people with surgical procedures at their door steps.
In order to streamline management of cancer patients scientifically and develop skills of surgeons at district level hospitals, mutual understanding between the two calibers of leadership from SKIMS and DHSK, modalities regarding logistic support, post operative care, providing technical expertise and prioritizing over routine cases of cancer patients were sorted out in the interest of patient care by the concerned authorities.
Working on the guidelines of mutual thought 'Together it is possible', the leadership ultimately lead to framing of Onco Surgical team from SKIMS including Dr. Abdul Wahid, Dr. Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad, Dr. Azhar Jan Batoo, Assistant Professors Surgical Oncology headed by Dr. Altaf Gowhar Haji, HoD Surgical Oncology SKIMS and their marching efforts brought laurels to the human gesture of expertise. Confirming the patients operated upon for cancer procedures Dr. Altaf Gowhar Haji, HoD Surgical Oncology Department SKIMS while giving details said that Mir Raja 50 years resident of Handwara diagnosed as Left Renal Cell Carcinoma was operated upon Left sided Radical Nephrectomy procedure at District Hospital Handwara, Najar Nazma 37 years resident of Baramulla who was diagnosed for Right sided Ca Breast was operated for Right Sided Modified Radical Mastectomy and Maqbool Ahmad 55 years resident of Pattan diagnosed for Kangri Cancer Anterior Abdominal Wall was done at District Hospital Baramulla with wide local excision.
Dr. Altaf deliberated that practical essence of technique is actual specialty and the steps taken are in the interest of best management of such patients at their door steps. Dr.Altaf said that this is research based long term understanding of Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Director Health Services Kashmir and Dr. Showkat Ahmed Zargar, Director SKIMS Soura in order to cater Onco patients to reduce burden at SKIMS.
The team of expertise while applauding the understanding of leadership said such collaboration shall definitely encourage the general public at large and Onco patients in particular to come forward within their areas of health care delivery system for management and streamlining tertiary care services which otherwise also Health Services Kashmir has added to its credit during the recent past in the field of other disciplines.
While analyzing the untiring efforts of leadership and expertise, social activists & other organizations from every walk of life have upheld the move in the interest of patient care. Social Activist, Amorist while quoting on practicality of professional calibers of understanding said that establishment of Onco Surgical Department at SKIMS has a history in itself. Amorist said that leadership qualities with conscience built organizational behavioral attitude shall lead to health for one and all, if practiced within the human & professional gestures.
