| North Zone tourney for Vijay Hazare Trophy | | Star studded Delhi beat J&K by 38 runs | |
Sports Reporter JAMMU, Feb 27: Despite aggressive batting from Adil Rishi and Shubham Khajuria, who added 72 runs at the rate of seven runs per over, Jammu and Kashmir lost to experienced Delhi by 38 runs in their first outing of the limited overs North Zone tourney for Vijay Hazare Trophy at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi today. As per the reports reaching here, J&K played confident cricket with hardly any fear of loss to the star-studded side having the likes of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Ghambir. The J&K could have surpassed the Delhi total had Hardeep Singh and Bandeep Singh not lost their wickets in a hurry. Confidently placed J&K lost two important batsmen in the middle when Hardeep and Bandeep were run out at a crucial stage. Earlier, after winning the toss and opting to field, J&K restricted Delhi to 256 for eight and in reply could not chase the target bowling out for 218 runs in 25.4 overs. Skipper Gautam Ghambir (58) and UBT Chand (42) played slow but steady innings adding 99 runs for first wicket stand in 23.1 overs. Milind Kumar and P Bisht contributed 22 and 39 runs respectively. Waseem Raza emerged as most successful bowler from J&K with three (12-01-58-3) wickets while Parvez Rasool (10-0-2-2) and Ram Dayal (9-1-42-2) secured two wickets each. In reply, J&K lost their first wicket in the shape of MK Dogra at four in the last delivery of opening over. However, Adil Rishi (36 off 32 balls, 6x4) and Shubham Khajuria (46 off 49 runs, 6x4, 1x6) added 72 runs for the second wicket stand bringing the total to 76 for one in 11.3 overs. Skipper, Parvez Rasool added 39-ball 30 runs hitting two sixes and one four while Hardeep Singh, who was run out by Gautam Ghambir, contributed 45 runs. From Delhi, S Narwal, V Tokas and Milind Kumar shared two wickets each.
JKRSC holds Snooker meet on Shivratri Sports Reporter JAMMU, Feb 27: Jammu and Kashmir Rural Sports Club (JKRSC), in collaboration with International Pool, organised snooker and pool competition to celebrate the occasion of Shivratri, here today. The competition was aimed at involving youth in communal harmony through the means of sports and also to celebrate the occasion in a different manner. Earlier, 40 young men took part in the day-long competition held on elimination, single knock out basis. Aditya Singh won the Snooker title beating Gautam Singh 40-16. Similarly, in Pool event, Gautam Jamwal trounced Sahil Behal 3-0. In Nine-ball game, Kunal Mahajan emerged winner outplaying Shwetank Mahajan 3-1. Gautam, Jai Shiv Chawan and Sandeepan conducted the competition. Earlier, organising secretary, Narinder Singh made the participants aware of the festival of Shivratri. While explaining the motive behind holding the event, he said that such festivals has cultural; historical, academic values. Later, president of the Rural Sports Club, Narinder Singh gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up of different events. He thanked owner of International Pool, Shakti Dutta for extending a helping hand. Khalsa Club wins Lakhan Memorial tourney Sports Reporter JAMMU, Feb 27: Khalsa Cricket Club, Gole Gujral clinched the Ist Lakhan Singh Chib (Tunna) Memorial Cricket Tournament played at village, Chack Jaffer in Marh Block, here today. In the title clash, Khalsa Club outplayed chack Jaffer by a margin of 12 runs. Earlier, batting first, Khalsa Club set a target of 94 runs which, in reply, Chack Jaffer could not chase and bowled out for 82 runs. Kalu of winner Khalsa Club was declared man of the match for restricting opponent with his four wickets haul for 17 runs. The man of the series trophy again went to Kalu. Chairman of organising committee of the tournament, Sukhdev Singh was chief guest in the final and prize distribution function, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. All the students participated in chocolate colouring competition to give the young buds concept of brown colour. It was a kind of recreational party arranged by the staff of Kindergarten on the last working day of the session. On this occasion a chocolate cake was cut by the Principal R.
