| DB serves notices to CS, Ors | | PIL over Minority Commission | | Jammu, Feb 27: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by one Jagdev Singh seeking setting-up of J&K Minority Commission, Division Bench (DB) of State High Court Comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar after hearing petitioner in person issued notice to Chief Secretary J&K, Secretary Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs and Secretary Social Welfare Dept returnable within four weeks and also directed to file response.
The petitioner has sought direction from the court to the State respondent to finalize the long pending consideration of framing of the State Minorities Commission Act to set-up J&K Commission for Sikh, Christians, Jains and Buddhists to evaluate their safe-guards and protection of interests as enshrined in Article 29 of the Constitution of India. Citing examples, the petitioner has sought direction on the pattern of such act framed by state of Bihar, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.(JNF) |
