SRINAGAR, Mar 12: At a time when people are dying due to heavy snowfall and Kashmir is reeling under darkness from last three days followed by loss of property worth crores, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is busy in justifying his rescue measures on Twitter amid heavy criticism from people.
According to reports 10 people got killed in avalanches which include four members of a family who were buried alive under avalanche in Balsaran Danau Kandi Marg village in Kulgam district of the Kashmir, two soldiers got killed when an avalanche hit the Batra camp of the Army in Kargil district, three Nepali labourers were also killed in an another avalanche in Kaksar area of Kargil district, another woman died in a house collapse in Shopian district and many houses collapsed in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, besides major towns are reeling under complete darkness from last three days.
However, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who started his day with the tweet of justifying his rescue operations on war footing pattern across the state, finally amid strong criticism from people accepted failure in and sought few more days in restoring basic facility particularly restoration of much needed electricity which according to the details received from major towns of Kashmir has turned the life of people in hell.
Earlier, when people started tweeting Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah about problems they are facing in their areas like @abdullah_omar and seriously don’t expect your twitter reactions. Acting on ground zero would be better (where governance has failed) in reply to one such tweet Omar Abdullah replied to one such Tweet as @ibnebattuta Pls go visit the PDD and PWD control rooms and then honestly tell me if you think they aren't working as well as they could or shd," followed by another Tweet in which Omar Abdullah tried to justify that Gupkar area is not on primary focus to restore basic facilities @ibnebattuta actually neither did Gupkar road but facts have never come in your way before so why should they start now. Right??
Later, when Twitter users informed Omar Abdullah that administration has completely failed so far across the Kashmir to restore basic facilities and people are suffering from last three days, Omar changed his tone and start accepting failures though in a different way as "Heavy snowfall over 2 days. Restoration work couldn't start in right earnest till the snow stopped falling. Teams are now fanning out" followed by another Tweet of Omar Abdullah as "This kind of snow with heavy water content has caused extensive damage to power infrastructure including HT network not just LT lines" and ended his communique as "Dept now working to restore damaged network on war footing but restoration of full service will take some days." Meanwhile, according to the details received, the State Disaster Management Authority has issued a warning in the higher reaches of the Kashmir valley and the Jammu region about more avalanches and landslides.
