SRINAGAR, Mar 12: Knowing well that nobody would take them to task once something awry takes place; the higher ups of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar continue to deprive people of important programmes due to frequent breaks in the transmission almost on daily basis.
The primary FM channel of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar popularly known as 102.6 FM broke all the records as it failed to establish contact with Vividh Bharti Mumbai on Tuesday and Wednesday thus depriving people of listening to their favourite programmes being broadcast from Vividh Bharti, Mumbai.
Sources told Early Times that not only this listeners could not also listen to the news bulletin being broadcast at different time slots on daily basis. The people who wanted to latest developments happening at the national level got disappointed since the news bulletin could not be broadcast on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"People who were glued to their radio sets on Tuesday and had tuned to 102.6 FM got disappointed once they got to know that they would not be able to listen to the programme from Vividh Bharti, Mumbai at 4 PM since the transmission has been lost. In the first instance the listeners thought that the fault is a minor one and it would be rectified soon but that was not to be," said sources.
Sources said that the announcer in-charge played some film songs and said that once the connection is restored the programme being broadcast from Vividh Bharti, Mumbai would be aired. They added that the connection was never restored and in addition to the programme the news bulletin also could not be broadcast. Same happened today as the news bulletin being aired at 10 AM could not be heard due to the disruption in the connection.
"The FM station is not old one that its transmission would get lost for hours together. Since faulty equipment has been used at this station, how one can expect the world class transmission from this FM station. This has been going for years now but no action whatsoever has been taken so far. The primary reason for the same is lack of accountability at this station along with the primary station of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar," said sources.
Sources said that on Monday (March 10) the primary channel of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar created a record of sorts by depriving people of Urdu news bulletin being aired from Delhi station at 8:50 AM. The connection was restored at 9:05 AM but by that time the news bulletin had finished. As such the people who are glued to their radio sets to listen to this news bulletin got disappointed and gave vent to their feelings after feeling dejected.
"It is high time that the authorities of Prasar Bharti Broadcasting Corporation of India hold a meaningful probe in the follies that are going on at Radio Kashmir, Srinagar. The engineering equipment being used at the radio station should be analyzed and checked so that the truth comes to the fore. The responsibility needs to be fixed so that people are no more befooled," said sources.
