| Azad's entry in poll arena makes election on Doda-Udhampur seat interesting | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 12: Prospects of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad joining fray from Udhampur-Doda seat has made the contest on the seat very interesting even though the congress high command is yet to announce the name of the party candidate. Not only the congress workers are upbeat but the main opponent from the BJP is also gearing up to take the fight straight to the doorsteps of the Congress stalwart. Political observers and close BJP watchers are already anticipating close fight between the congress and BJP nominee if Azad is given the mandate. In the recent days the congress leaders and senior party ministers have openly come out in the support of Azad's candidature on Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat and have also conveyed their sentiments to the party high command. Large number of local party leaders are not in favour of giving mandate to sitting MP Lal Singh even though he is also camping in the National capital. Initially, Azad was reluctant to throw his hat in the poll arena but it is learnt through reliable sources in the party that he too has given his nod to contest the seat. The party high command has been briefed by the state party leaders in the recent days ahead of the finalization of the names. Meanwhile, the BJP camp is upbeat too and has already started the poll campaign to galvanise support of people in favour of BJP candidate Dr Jitendra Singh. Entry of Prof. Bhim Singh from the Panthers party and independent candidate Anil Gupta may also benefit Congress candidate as both these candidates would impact the prospect of BJP candidate. Though the battle lines are drawn but until the final announcement is made the BJP enjoys a fair advantage and may face the heat if Azad's name is officially announced. It is no political secret compared between the two main contestants Azad is considered a old horse who has perfected the art of managing poll campaigns in his long political career. Political observers say Azad himself may not be able to spare enough time to run his campaign but his followers and well wishers are already upbeat and waiting for the formal announcement to handle his poll campaign. Azad's hold over the party machinery especially in hilly districts of Doda and Kishtwar may augur well for the party and support by the National Conference would be treated as an icing on the cake by the Azad's supporters.
