JKCA T20 camp starts today

JAMMU, Mar 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) shall be organising a brief camp tomorrow for the already selected 16-member team before their departure for the North Zone Twenty20 tournament for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy hosted by Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) from April 1.
To be played on daily basis, the five-match competition shall conclude on April 5 with J&K playing the last tie against Punjab.
"For this brief camp, those already selected boys shall be reporting the GGM Science College Hostel Ground tomorrow," an official of the Association told SAN.
The TEAM: Parvez Rasool, Ian Dev Singh, Ram Dayal, Manish Dogra, Bandeep Singh, Huvaid Ronga, Fayaz Hazari, Nadeep Dar, Raman Dutta, Asif Rasool, Syed Sagar, Mudassir Ahmad, Ahmad Umar Bandey, Pranav Gupta, Shubham Khajuria and Rahil Singh. Pertinent to mention here that J&K lost all their matches in the North Zone Vijay Hazare (one-dayers) Trophy in the recent past.

JKP, Simula XI win ties in Christmas T20

JAMMU, Mar 23: Simula XI and J&K Police won their respective matches to advance in the ongoing 2nd Christmas Cricket Twenty20 Cup at KC Sports Club Ground, here today.
In the first match, Simula XI defeated Rainawari Cricket Club (RCC). Batting first, Simula XI set a competitive total making 169 runs for six wickets. Anshuman made highest 59 runs off 43 balls, while Dhruv Mahajan and Atul contributed 30 and 23 runs respectively. Deepak took three wickets to emerge as most successful bowler. Kuldeep, Satish and Vimarsh shared apiece each.
In reply, Rainawari could not chase the target and bowled out two runs short of the opponent total. Nitin remained top scorer with 68 runs off mere 32 balls. Vimarsh and Satish contributed 22 and 21 runs respectively. Sameer, Shashi and Prince shared two wickets each from Simula XI. Anshuman of Simula adjudged man of the match.
In another match of the day, JKP outplayed Sai Cricket Club by 24 runs. Batting first, JKP scored 137 runs in 15 overs with Nishu (27) and Rajesh Gill (23) being top scorers. Amit and Shebaz added 16 runs each. Sheeshu, Mintu and Sunny took one wicket each from Sai Club.
Batting second, Sai Club could make 113 runs losing five wickets. Vinay remained unbeaten at 43 runs, followed by Raju and Suman, who added 26 and 15 runs respectively. Naresh and Vishal took two wickets each from J&K Police. Naresh was declared man of the match.
Today's matches officiated by the technical penal including Sandeep Manchanda, Vinod Kandyara and Suhail Yousuf.




Jammu Students bring laurels to State

PATNA, Mar 23: In the first National Silambam Championship held at Patliputra Stadium, Patna, young students from Jammu brought glory to the State by winning Silver and Bronze medals in under sixteen age group category. The tournament was organized by Bihar Silambam Association where budding players participated under different age group categories.
A programme was organized to honour the students for bringing pride and glory to the State. State Incharge of BJP Cells Sat Sharma (CA) was called upon as the chief guest to grace the occasion. President and Chief Patron Usha Kher, Jammu District President of Association Rahul Singh, BJP Leader and Jt. Secretary Amrik Singh, State Vice President BJYM Karan Sharma and Munish Raja were also present on the occasion.
In girls category, Tanisha Jamwal won two silver medals in forty eight kg and open weight category. Sarita bagged bronze medal in thirty two kg, Muskan and Simran too bagged bronze medals in fifty two kg and fifty six kg category respectively.
In boys category, Manik bagged Silver medal in thirty five kg category. Sumit won Silver medal in thirty eight kg category, Shivam won Silver Medal in twenty five kg category, Sumit Chib bagged Silver Medal in forty eight kg category and Dheeraj Kumar won Silver Medal in fifty two kg category.
Aman Kumar,Santosh, Rohan, Arush Manav, Manik, Avdesh Singh, Mohit Sharma, Yudhvir singh were among the participants who participated in the Silambam tournament held at Patna.
Addressing the students Sat Sharma (CA) congratulated the students for winning medals and making the State proud. He also encouraged the students to focus on extra curricular activities. He said that such tournaments gives opportunities to young and budding players to display their talent and it also helps them in improving their ability to play the sport. He also stated that the youth in Jammu and Kashmir is very much talented and the Government should also focus on improving the infrastructure of sports like Silambam in the State.
All the Committee members of the Association also thanked the Coach Kawaljeet Singh and Coach Komal Gupta and congratulated them for their efforts in coaching the students for the game.


Youth camps organised in Kashmir to promote young sportsmen

Jammu, Mar 23: Police department of Jammu and Kashmir organised a week-long youth promotional coaching camp in a bid to encourage sporting activities among talented youth residing in far-flung areas of the state.
The youth camp was inaugurated by Special Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police (Special DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar at Gulshan ground in Jammu.
The camp is a part of Jammu and Kashmir Police`s civic action programme and more than 400 boys are participating in it.
The main aim of the camp is to enhance mental and physical ability of the youth, honing their skills in different capacities.
"The best players are in our teams and best coaches are also in our own department. So it is our responsibility to encourage sports in our state. So this is the beginning and we wish to groom new and talented boys, who reside in far flung areas of Kashmir and are deprived of such opportunities," said Additional Director General of Police and organising secretary of the youth camp, S.M. Sahai.
Sahai further informed that the event has been organised for boys in 14 to 19 years age group, who are chosen from various educational institutions of downtrodden areas. Training in various games like volleyball, football, basketball, handball and kabaddi will be given by experienced coaches.
"These days football has become very modern and our concept is children from far flung areas will come to us, they have good strength, we will teach them new techniques of football. And also this time India is hosting Under-17 Football World Cup and if god wishes, I think these children who have come from the far flung areas, have the potential that they can represent Indian team," said football coach, Inthqaab.


Closing ceremony of J&K Wrestling C’ship Concludes

JAMMU, Mar 23: The closing ceremony of 19th Men State Wrestling championship and 5th Women State Wrestling championship 2014 concluded at MA stadium Indoor Hall Jammu. Nearly 100 participants from various Districts of J&K State including the wrestlers of J&K Police Central Team participated in the championship.
Raman Bhalla Minister for Horticulture, culture, youth service and sports was chief guest on the occasion of Closing ceremony, emphasis the role of the sports in the life of a person and assured full support from the state Govt. for the upliftment of the game in the state. Naveen Agarwal -IPS Director General Youth Service and Sports guest of honor on the occasion expresses his good wishes for conducting this event and said that such events prove beneficial for the players while playing at national and international level. S.M. Sahia-IPS ADGP Armed J&K ,the guest of honor lauded the progress of J&K Wrestling Association and appreciates the role of wrestling association for conducting such mega event. The other dignitaries at the occasion were Vijay Singh Sambyal -IPS, DIG IR Jammu and Vijay Kumar -IPS Commandant IR-10th Bn.
Dushyant Sharma, President J&K Wrestling Association in his well come address thanks the chief guest, other dignitaries, members and participants and expressed his gratitude to all for gracing the occasion. The members of the J&K State wrestling Association who were present on the occasion were Ashutosh Sharma (Gen. Sec. J&K Olympic Association), Ajay Vaid (Genl. Sec. Wrestling Association.), Narinder Mahajen, Kuldeep Sharma, Avtar Soni, Vijay Pahalwan, Raju Sharma , Pardeep Sharma, Pream Chodoure, Vijay Athari, Deeraj Sharma and other prominent wrestlers of J&K.


IIIM organizes annual Flower Show

Jammu, Mar 23: CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine in collaboration with Department of Floriculture, J&K organised annual Flower Show at CSIR-IIIM Farm, Chatha, here today. The day also witnessed an impressive Kissan Mela and Entrepreneurship Programme for educating the stakeholders about various avenues and schemes available for them.
People from different sections of society took part in the competition and brought up different kinds of flowers for the Show.
Major General, Govardhan Singh Jamwal was the chief guest on occasion.
Addressing the gathering, he said that more people should adopt floriculture to make their lives prosperous as the incentives in the field are quite lucrative. Balwant Thakur, Regional Director, ICCR, while addressing the gathering focused on the importance of floriculture saying that it could boost the economy of J&K to a much larger extent.

Dr. I. C. Chopra Memorial Trophy for Best Garden and Lawn maintenance by individual (Services) was won by Col. A.K. Bali of Bari Brahmana, Jammu.
Dr. R. S. Kapil Memorial Running Trophy for Best Rose of the show was given to Department of Agriculture, Talab Tillo, Jammu.
Gen. K. V. Krishna Rao Running Trophy for Best Garden and Lawn maintenance by Armed Forces/Other Para-Military Forces was given to Lt. Col. S.S. Gill, HQ26 Inf Div Satwari, Jammu.
