Early Times report
JAMMU, Mar 23: To woo the migrant voters various political parties including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and J&K Peoples Conference (JKPC) leaders are visiting the Kashmiri migrant habitations here daily seeking their vote in Lok Sabha elections.
Both the parties have an edge over the Congress and National Conference in view of their recent role over Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Temples Bill. The role of the two parties on the Bill has been seriously viewed by Kashmiri Pandits who accuse the coalition for betrayal and not fulfilling the promise despite oft repeated assurances.
Taking advantage of the Congress-NC role on the Bill and opposition by BJP and NPP, the PDP which supported the Bill is losing no opportunity to woo the migrant voters to cast their vote in favour of the Party in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections the PDP leaders are visiting migrant camps daily here. In this regard today a meeting was convened by migrant Cell of the Party led by Ramesh Kaul a senior PDP leader here at Bohri today in which Deputy Speaker Legislative Assembly; Sartaj Madni was the chief guest.
Madni while seeking the vote of the community recounted the pro-peoples policy of then PDP led coalition headed by Mufti Mohammed Sayed. He said an honest and sincere effort was made by the Party for the honourable rehabilitation of Pandits in Valley and in this connection quarters were constructed at Kheer Bhawani Tulmulla, in Ganderbal district, Sheikhpora in Budgam district and Mattan in Anantnag district.
But this plan fell through after the change of the guard in the State. He assured that all steps will be taken for the dignified return of pandits to Valley and restoration of composite culture in Kashmir. Madni said that PDP is committed to solve the problems of Pandits and Kashmir was totally incomplete without Pandits.
He said the PDP if voted to power will bring the Bill for creation of Shrines Board to protect the religious places of Hindus in Valley. Another meeting with migrants was organised by JKPC district Coordinator Ganderbal Mir Ghulam Rasool at Patoli Brahmana with Kashmiri migrants of Ganderbal Assembly Constituency. Mir while addressing the meeting accused NC-Congress for the present plight of migrants and mass migration of minorities from Valley in 1989-90. He said it was because of wrong policies of these parties that the Kashmir is on fire at present and two communities have been separated from each other. He said the Congress-NC accord in 1987 was root cause of the present mess as they adopted such policies which not only harmed the cause of Kashmiris but the entire nation. He accused the Congress of detracting from the path of Mahatma Gandi and negating the sacrifices of great freedom fighters like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Chander Shekhar Azad and other freedom fighters andappealed the right thinking people from all communities to join hands to put the State back on rails and lay strong foundation of democracy in the State.
Pran Nath Raina, a trade union leader also addressed the meeting.
