Jammu, Mar 23: Sitting Congress MP from Udhampur-Doda-Kathua parliamentary seat Chowdhary Lal Singh has said that he was 'surprised' over the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad's consent to contest the parliamentary election from the seat presently represented by him. While talking to media persons on his arrival at Jammu airport, Lal Singh said that when leader of Ghulam Nabi Azad's caliber has decided to contest election from this seat, he has no option but to surrender. "He is leader of high caliber-- member CWC and if he decided to contest elections, Lal Singh aspirations have little meaning before him" said dejected Lal Singh. He said that after party decision, he was left with no choice except to support Azad and added that as per party direction, he will help Azad in winning this election. To a question regarding Azad's last year announcement at Khatua in which he (Azad) declared him as party candidate, Lal Singh said that it was Azad who is in better position to give answer to this question. He said that Azad though had announced his candidature on 7-12-2013 in a function at Khatua attended by over 20000 people, but said that he did not know any reason behind change in Azad's mind. To another question regarding open revolt by his supporters against Azad, Lal Singh downplaid the incident and said that he had no knowledge about his supporters' revolt against Azad. "I was in Delhi since last 15 days-I have no knowledge about any development with regard to revolt by my supporters against Azad" said Lal Singh. It is pertinent to mention that after declaration of Azad's name as party candidate from Udhampur-Doda-Kathua parliamentary seat; several Lal Singh supporters exhibited open dissent against Azad. |
