Jammu, Mar 23: Election Commission of India has launched a special drive for farmers' electoral awareness and participation in the democracy under the campaign "Jai Kissan Jai Hindustan" under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation in district Reasi. Continuing the second phase of this drive launched in December last camps were held today at Dangakote and Aghar Jitto. District Administration has initiated a series of Farmers' Electoral Awareness camps in the third phase of ongoing SVEEP campaign in remote areas. Electronic Voting Machine familiarization sessions were organised and electoral literacy material was distributed. The farmers were also facilitated to check their names in voter list. Pledge to participate in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Polls was also administered during both the camps. Assistant Director Manu Hansa, Chief Agricuture Officer Omesh Safaya and Tehsildar Settlement Ram Lal organise the camp at Aghar Jitto where more than 500 farmers and large number of women attended the electoral awareness sessions and EVM familiarization. Speaking on the occasions the officials impressed upon the farmers to become stake holders in strengthening democracy through their active participation. They expressed serious concern over 11% polling at Aghar Jitto, the birth place of Bawa Jitto, during 2009 Lok Sabha elections and hoped that with extensive SVEEM campaign and participation of farmers it will cross 90% this time. At Dangakote Sub-Divisional Officer Sanjeev Kumar and Tehsildar Reasi conducted the proceedings of the farmers' electoral awareness camp and administered the pledge of electoral participation in local languages. Dangakote remote and inaccessible area was chosen for its prevailing low electoral participation of farming community and women.Around 400 farmers participated at Dangakote camp. Master Trainers held EVM demonstration sessions. |
