Vijaypur, Mar 23: Seeking support for Madan Lal Sharma contesting for Jammu-Poonch parliamentary seat, former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today said Congress party has ability to keep the phase of development and equal development in all the regions of J&K. "The people should strengthen the secular party like Congress for the development of the country as a whole and particularly J&K," Singh appealed people in Vijaypur during his public meeting in the border village Trandi. Earlier, the people took out a motorbike rally from Trandi Morh to the village shouting slogans in favour of Madan Lal Sharma. Singh, who is a senior Congress leader in Vijaypur, said the Congress led UPA-II has made various people friendly decisions and even brought transparency in the works being done by the Governments. For this, he said, the UPA Government brought RTI, took decision of one rank and one pension, farmer friendly schemes and schemes for the benefits of downtrodden section of the society. "The people should not forget the works done by the Congress for its benefit. There were many benefits which were given to the J&K State and for its development," he reminded, while appealing people to give their votes in favour of Madan Lal Sharma. Besides this, a function was also organised at village Sheikhupura Palota village to remember the Kargil war hero Gurdeep Singh Soni who sacrificed his life for the cause of the nation in 1999 in war with Pakistan. The picture of the war hero was garlanded. Speaking on the occasion, Manjit Singh appealed youth to follow the footsteps those who worked for the nation and gave their lives for the country. Singh also remembered Bhagat Singh, Singh Raj Guru besides other freedom fighters.
