| As Politicians appease camera teams openly, MCMC fails to detect single case of paid news | | | Saahil Suhail ANANTNAG, Apr 12: Media Certification Monitoring Committee (MCMC), assigned to by the Election Commission of India at district level to keep an eagle's eye on 'Paid News' has evidently failed so far as the committee had not detected a single case of paid news in this South Kashmir district. However, politicians continue to please media men including the camera teams of Doordarshan and State Information Department. Sources told Early Times that each day, parties after the end of their political rallies please media men especially those working with Government media agencies like Doordarshan and Information department evidently throwing the Election Commission guidelines to winds. Interestingly, the people who have been included in the flying squads of Election Department are too demanding the money besides being paid by the Election Department. "Except few reputed media organizations, people working with lesser known Valley dailies and shockingly the people who are working for Information Department and Doordarshan are demanding money and compelling the politicians to pay them," said a reporter working with a daily, adding videographers inducted in flying squads are mostly being pleased by the politicians. Sources said officials at the helm of affairs seem to have an understanding with the politicians' viz-a-viz people portraying themselves as reporters and cameramen. They said that senior Congress leader's personnal assistant today in Kokernag area distributed Rs 500 notes among reporters who turned to cover his workers meeting. Incharge Media Cell Anantnag, Sheikh Nisar Ahmad when contacted confirmed and said, "So far we haven't come across any paid news case." He said that they have detected two cases regarding advertisement which they disposed off. |
