ET Report
Jammu, Apr 12: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has well made an attempt again to strike a chord with J&K saying his roots are here which is why he wants to see the state developing. What benefits he will accrue from raking up the issue depends on how well it has been received by the audience he addressed at Doda the other day. This time, however, it has drawn flak from Kashmiri Pandits, a community which his ancestors belonged to. The upfront question KPs are asking that if Rahul takes pride in having ancestral KP connection, what he has done for the community confronted with many problems...?
Rahul Gandhi J&K connection reference and context has come in for dissection not only on social media but on a serious note has invited sharp criticism from some KP organisations as well. While criticizing Rahul gandhi this time, KPs are putting a basic question to him as to why it occurs to his memory only at the time of elections that he has his origin in Kashmir and that his ancestors were Kashmiris .....?Youth All India Kashmiri Samaj taking on Congress and Rahul Gandhi in particular over this issue has termed this merely as election gimmick and an emotional card which he plays only for electoral benefits. The YAIKS has contended if Rahul takes pride that he belongs to the dysnasty which has roots in this state, he should have done something for the community which has ancestral roots here. Ripping apart his statement, the organisation has further said that neither Rahul has gone through or understood the sufferings of the KPs nor has his party Congress taken any substantial measures for upliftment of the community.
Commenting further on Rahul remarks, YAIKS president RK Bhat has observed that there is no denying the fact KP community has given the first and prominent leader to the Country Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru as first Prime Minister. In that context, Rahul Gandhi being from a Kashmiri Pandit background and dynasty, should have a soft corner for KPs, but he had given a clear signal that he is not bothered on that count. The KP body while criticizing his statement has made a mention of bonhomie between Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru, a bond which was expected to strenghten J&K's bond with rest of nation and realize the dream that Kashmir becomes crown of India. YAIKS has observed that this dream has not been accomplished fully as yet. Moreover, when he (Rahul Gandhi) has been able to justice with his own community over the last 25 years of their struggle on many counts, how can he be expected to do justice with other communities across the country. The organization , however, on an optimistic note has said that the KP bond which Congress and Gandhi clan particularly at the time when late Indira Gandhi was in power, which stands broken needs to be revived and Congress should have emphasized this in its manifesto.
