| Police cracks 'mystery of abandoned car' on Rajouri-Poonch road, one held | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Apr 12: Police today claimed to have solved the mystery of abandoned car which put police and other security agencies on their toes on Wednesday a day ahead of voting in Jammu Poonch Lok Sabha seat with the arrest of one besides recovery of large quantity of stolen goods. Meanwhile massive manhunt has been launched to nab the other absconding accused. "The accused have been identified namely as Mohd Gafoor S/O Mohd Maqbool R/O Kheora Rajouri and Aftab Ali alias Taffee S/O Ghulam Qadir R/O Ward No 4 Rajouri, police spokesperson said. Sharing the details, Mubassar Latifi, District Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajouri said, "During the investigation of the 'mystery over abandoned car on Rajouri- Poonch' road, the investigating team following its reliable sources took its lead towards a duo of history sheeters.' "Mohd Gafoor and Aftab Ali from Rajouri had stolen the said car from Jammu, he said and added, "The duo was bringing some illegal consignment of brown sugar from Jammu to Rajouri and with the apprehension of being caught by Police they fled from the Kallar Police Naka,' "A search operation was launched in the area as the security forces/police initially were apprehending some militancy related action ahead of polling process, he said and added, "During search of the car security forces recovered 13 gms of brown sugar and a two rupees Pakistani coin was found inside the dashboard of the car.' "A Case FIR No 165 2014 U/S 21 NDPS Act was registered and investigation started, SP Rajouri said further adding, "as per police records the said notorious duo has already been facing trial in court of law in various other theft cases as well. "Cases under FIR Nos 316 /2010 , 37 /2011, 270/ 2011 , 631/ 2011 , 271 /2011, 569/ 2012, 6/ 2013 , 120/ 2013 , 355/ 2010, 355/ 2011, 667/ 2012 at Police Station Rajouri stand registered aginst the said duo, senior police official added.After hectic efforts by Rajouri Police, he said that one of the accused Gafoor Ahmad was arrested and on his preliminary questioning he confessed his involvement in the said incident as well as in various other burglaries like registered against FIR nos 471 /2012 u/s 457 380 RPC , 128/ 2012 u/s 457 /380 RPC. "On his disclosure police has recovered some stolen property from his possession which included 4- Mobile phones, 2- CPU of computer HP Intel core 3, 1-Pixma desktop inkjet printer ,5- Computer mouse 1- Remittance green card of State bank of India (SBI), SP Rajouri added.Senior police officer added that both the accused are part of an organized gang and have other associates and accomplices in Jammu also, and are involved in various burglary and narcotics/ drug peddling cases. "Aftab Ali @ Taffee is still absconding, more arrests and the recovery of more stolen goods, is expected in the coming days, he added. Worth to mention on April 9 during routine checking by the Road opening Party (RoP) of the army, the smugglers fled from the spot in a stolen car bearing registration No HR51T-7698 resulting at alert was sounded forcing them to abandon the car near Kallar village. During preliminary enquiry it was found that the car has been stolen from Jammu two days back and was owned by one Sweta Kukreja. According to documents Sweta Kukreja had purchased the car from Fridabad (Haryana) and presently putting up at 725-B Sainik colony Jammu. |
