Critical polling booths to be kept under heavy security cover

Jammu, Apr 12: Several companies of security forces, that have completed their task of maintaining law and order during April 10 polling in Jammu-Poonch constituency, were being shifted to Udhampur constituency where the polling is due on April 17.
Official sources said that these companies, relieved from their duty in Jammu constituency, have been deployed in highly sensitive areas of Udhampur-Doda constituency to assist security forces, including the state police, in ensuring incident free polling. After Jammu Poonch constituency, which had 2271 polling booths, Udhampur has 2051 polling booths out of them 30 per cent fall in the highly sensitive category. These critical booths fall in the assembly segments of Kishtwar, Doda, Inderwal, Gulabgarh, Reasi, Gool Arnas and some areas adjacent to Udhampur Assembly segment. Sources said that those companies of paramilitary forces that have completed their task of maintaining vigil in and around polling booths in Jammu-Poonch constituency were to be deployed in and around critical booths in Udhampur-Kathua constiuency. According to these sources, after the polling was over on April 17 some companies of the paramilitary forces were to be shifted to Anantnag constituency where polling is scheduled to be held on April 26. After polling in Anantnag companies of paramilitary forces relieved from poll duty were to be deployed in Srinagar constituency where polling is due on April 30. Similar arrangements were being made in Baramullah where polling is due on May 7. Additional companies of paramilitary forces have already been sent to Ladakh constituency where the government expects to be incident free polling and pre-poll campaign. Reports from Election Commission revealed that out of total of 9633 polling booths 4059 have been declared as critical where security grid has been upgraded with the deployment of additional companies of paramilitary forces.
Majority of these critical booths are in the three constituencies in the Kashmir valley.
