| JU constitutes committee on hostel fee hike issue | | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 7: Awaking from the deep slumber of nearly two months, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University today constituted a committee to look into demands of the students regarding the hike in the hostel fee and the committee shall submit its recommendations within two weeks. As per press release, JU authority while clarifying said that all the stake holders were informed that the hostel fee was raised after a gap of eight years in December 2012 wide notification no F.Acad./I/12/12928-940 dated 28.12.2012. Authority said that the various students' bodies including the elected students' representatives registered their protest just after the hike of the fees in 2012. After proper consultation with these students, the hostel fee structure was revised vide notification no. Acad./I/13/1630-44 dated 21.02.2013 and was fixed at Rs. 5480/- per year including Rs 2000/- as refundable security. It is also pertinent to mention that excess fee charged vide earlier notification of 2012 was refunded / adjusted to the students as per the new notification of 2013. It said the University took a lenient view and constituted a committee to look into the matter. The committee in their report recommended to reduce the refundable security from Rs 2000/- to Rs. 800/-. The protesting students did not agree the recommendation of this committee and hence a new committee is constituted to look into the matter again. |
