| ‘Early Times’ praised for highlighting social issues | | ET Reporters’s name recommended for award | | M S Nazki
Mendhar, May 7: Against rhetoric, Early Times is once again in limelight for highlighting social issues from across the nook and corners of the state by Poonch district administration as well as members of the civil society for a story which this paper had carried about a person awaiting treatment for the last 10 years. Poonch district administration took cognizance of a story carried in this paper in its May 5 edition wherein it had highlighted about a militancy victim who had gone psychic when his shoulder brass, which was implanted in his shoulder in 2004 after he severed bullet injuries was not replaced timely under heading "Militancy victim goes psychic for want of treatment" today replaced the shoulder brass successfully at SDH Mendhar. Tehsildar Mendhar Mohd Rafiq Mughal had ordered a team led by BMO Mendhar Dr. Parvez Ahmad Khan, Girdaur Rauf Ahmed Choudhary, Fourth class employee Choudhary Nissar Ahmad, Dy CEO Mendhar, Lecturer Abdul Hanief Mir and asked to operate the victim. Tempted by an ice candy, the victim Mohd Ikhlaq, son of Lal Din was asked to sit inside an ambulance which took him to SDH Mendhar where he was handled by Anesthesia specialist Mohseen Mir, Pharmacist Ravi Sharma and was operated successfully. Following operation, when the victim was questioned about his present condition, he simply said 'better than past'. After the victim came out of hospital, large number of civil society members greeted him and thanked Early Times for highlighting such social issues. Further, to reward the best journalism spirit, Early Times Reporter's name has been recommended for an award which this journo will receive shortly from Divisional Commissioner Jammu. Pertinently militancy victim Mohammad Ikhlaq had severed bullet injuries in 2003 and was operated by Indian Army in 2004. He was also assisted by Indian army with a sum of Rs 50, 000 for the construction of a two room house. After about 4 years of operation, Ikhlaq felt pain in the shoulder and after consulting doctors at SDH Mendhar he was operated with implantation of a shoulder brass in 2004 but the same was not replaced timely owing to which he had gone psychic and for the same story early times is in news now.
