GREF concedes demand of drain construction, black topping

Kishtwar, May 7: The 3 days long agitation launched by the people of Kishtwar under the leadership of local Sarpanch Ajeet Kumar alies Baby against General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) today ended on a success note after GREF officials agreed to start work on construction of drain and blacking topping of 4 KM road stretch from Malipath Chowk to 9 sector RR immediately.
While talking to media persons, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan announce that the demands of the agitating people has been accepted as a result of which people sitting on the hunger strike and protester called off their strike. "I think this is not a personal protest of anyone--- this is the protest against the poor roads and drainage and the demand of the protestor was genuine as the roads as well as the drains are really in bad condition" said DC Kishtwar. He said that after joint consultation between administration and agitating people, executing agency (GREF) has been asked to start the work immediately which they (GREF) started by pressing man and machinery into service.
He said that administration is committed to provide prompt & quick service to the people and added that public-administration relationship is like a family relationship which needs to be strengthening through deliberations and continuous talks.
In question regarding public allegations of embezzlements against GREF and subsequent demand of inquiry, DC Kishtwar said that the allegations investigating agencies including SP Kishtwar is looking and verifying the allegations of corruption charges against GREF.
He said no one is above law and added that the guilty will be punished in accordance to law. Earlier in the morning, Sarpanch Ajeet Kumar along with Sarpanch Rajinder Sen, Panch Goutam Singh and youth activists along with several other started hunger strike and continuously blocked the vehicular movements for hours before the GREF agreed on the demands of agitators in the afternoon. PDP Youth President Kishtwar Mohammad Umar Malik today also extended its support to agitating Sarpanch and others by participating in the Dharna.
