| Manandeep-Ketan pair wins boys' doubles tile | | |

JAMMU, May 11: Manandeep Singh and Ketan pair won the junior boys doubles title in the ongoing Ist Stag Jammu Open Table Tennis Championship, organised by Jammu Table Tennis Academy, here today. In the final, played today, Manandeep and Ketan outplayed the duo of Ritvik and Asad 3-2. The score: 11-07, 09-11, 11-08, -6-11, 11-07. In the meantime, Manandeep Singh and Vishal Ghai made it to the final of men's singles event. Earlier, in the semifinals, Manandeep outplayed Gurvinder Singh in straight sets of 11-09, 11-09, 11-08 while Vishal trounced Sandeep 3-1 (11-06, 13-11, 08-11, 11-09). Earlier, today's junior boys doubles final and men's semifinals witnessed besides others by former state champion, Manmeet Kaur. As advised by the visiting guest, the management of the Academy has decided to hold competition in the veteran categories in near future so as to involve the old champions of the game. Meanwhile, as per the organizers, the finals of sub-junior boys' singles and men's singles shall be played from 5 pm onwards, followed by the prize distribution function.

Senior Girls: Jaspreet Kour (15.3 mint) Pendi (Bishnah); Vishali Devi (19 mint) Chak Chinana; Rajni Kumari (19 mint) Chak Chimna; Sapna Devi (21 mint) Chak Chimna). Junior Boys: Bhag Hussain (20 mint) Chak Chimna; Amarjeet Sinh (20.10 Second) Pendi (Bishnah); Sahil Singh (23.10 Second) Bishnah. Junior Girls: Damini Sharma (24 mint) Sainik Colony; Vishaka Jiswar (25 mint); Uhampur; Ayushi Verma (26.9 sec) Udhampur; tannu Devi (26.9 sec) Chak Chimna). 25 students of Udhampur and 10 students from Kathua district participated in the function with total strength of participating student as180. The guest of the honor for the programme was Janak Raj (Sarpanch) whereas the Chief Guest was Dr. Kuldeep Singh. Officals present in the function included Gourav Kumar Atri, Raj Kumar and Rakesh Kumar. The programme was held under the supervision of Athletic coach Shamer Malik. Organising Secretary for the programme was Dr. Mast Ram Bhagat.
CS inaugurates 2nd Chief Secretary's Golf Course tourney

SRINAGAR, May 11: Chief Secretary, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey inaugurated 2nd Chief Secretary's Golf Course Tournament at Royal Spring Golf Course here today. The day long tournament was jointly organised by the District Administration, Srinagar and Tourism Department Kashmir in which as many as 88 prominent golfers across the country participated. The first Sunday was selected for the tournament after opening of Darbar Move at Srinagar, while as the second tournament would be organised on October 26th, 2014 at the same venue. Chief Secretary said that Kashmir is bestowed with natural beauty and hoped that a good number of tourists would visit Kashmir Valley during the current tourist season. He said that the Government is committed for the promotion of tourism sector and several steps have been initiated for strengthening the tourism infrastructure in the State. The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Shalinder Kumar, Principal Secretary Planning & Development, B.R. Sharma, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, B.B. Vyas, Principal Secretary Home, Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary Power, A.K. Mehta, Secretary Tourism, Zaffar Ahmed, District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmed Shah, Director Tourism, Talat Parvez, DDC Ganderbal, Sarmad Hafiz, I/C Spring Royal Gulf Course, Nusrat, besides other prominent golfers were also present on the occasion. Later, the Chief Secretary gave away trophies among the golfers who adjudged first, second and third. He also honoured the other participants by distributing prizes.

Kishtwar, May 11:- Youth Sarkoot Cricket Club today lifted 5th Kishtwar Police Martyr's Memorial T-20 Cricket Tournament played at Chowghan ground Kishtwar after they beat Youth Kishtwar Cricket club by 47 runs in the final played today. On this occasion DC Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan was the chief guest while DIG DKR Ashkoor Ahmed Wani & Commander 9 sector RR Sameer Badhurie was the guest of honors. After winning the captain Youth Sarkoot decided to bat first in rain curtail match and posed a total of 115 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 14 overs. Jaspreet of Youth Sarkoot score quick fire 35 runs of 26 balls with two huge sixes and three boundaries and Rabnazwaz scored 17 runs in 9 balls with one six and boundary. Captain Youth Kishtwar Rashid Najjar picked up three wickets for 22 runs while Imran Sheikh and Mudassir picked up two wickets each. While chasing the target of 116 runs, Youth Kishtwar succumbs to early pressure after Saleem Sheikh put early breaks on Youth Kishtwar inning by claiming hatric in which he bowled topic three batsmen of Youth Kishtwar in his 2nd over which also remains a maiden over. The whole team batting 2nd was bundle out for 68 runs and lost the match by 47 runs. Saleem who was adjudged man of the match as well as man of the series picked up four wickets for eight runs and remain leading wicket taker in the tournament with 12 wickets. Captain Rashid scores 21 runs for his team Youth Kishtwar and remains not out while four batsmen went back to prevailian without scoring any run. While addressing the gathering DIG Ashkoor Ahmed Wani said that the aim and objective of organising this type of tournament is to engage youths in the field of sports and help them to nourish their talent. He said that under civic action program, J & K Police organized several other programs like cultural program, debates, awareness program on uses and abuses of drugs, beside several other programs that brings the police close to youths who are the future of the country. He said that police is committed to organize different kinds of sports events in future. He also lauded the support of veteran cricketers, sports lovers of Kishtwar and administration for helping the police in successful conduction of this tournament. He also lauded the role of SP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal for organizing the tournament. He said that it is the collective responsibility of the administration to provide an opportunity to the youths of this far flung area of the state by regularly organizing this type of tournament in different sports. He said that administration and police has jointly decided to uplift the Kishtwar College ground in next six months so that it could be made functional for organizing tournament in future. In his address DC Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Khan lauded the efforts of Kishtwar police by organizing Cricket tournament despite remaining busy with their duties and added that he feel happy to see the youths of Kishtwar participating in this tournament with enthusiasm, zeal and zest. He said that their no dearth of talent in Kishtwar and laid stress for channelizing the talent of youth in proper way by organizing this type of tournament at regular intervals. He asked the youth to come forward and organized multiple sports tournament in the District and issued his full support to the organizers. In the end DC Kishtwar, DIG DKR, Commander 9 sector RR & SP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal distributed the prizes among the winning and runner up team with Rs. 15000 & Rs. 10000 cash prizes and tropies respectively. On this occasion Commander 9 sector RR announced that army will organize a Cricket tournament for the sports lovers of Kishtwar to be held in 1st or 2nd week of next month. Addition SP Kishtwar Abdul Qayoom presented vote of thanks on behalf of Kishtwar police. The final was witnessed by large number of people belonging from different strata of life.
Ratnuchak Club wins Major Pritam tourney

JAMMU, May 11: Ratnuchak Cricket Club (RCC) lifted the Major Pritam Singh Twenty20 Cricket Tournament concluded today at Badhori in district Samba. In the final, Ratnuchak Club outplayed ICC Birpur, courtesy brilliant knock from Jatin, who made 57-ball 88 runs studded with four sixes and 12 boundaries. Earlier, batting first, after winning the toss, ICC set a target of 127 runs losing all their wickets in 19.5 overs. Rajeev and Rinku remained top scorers with 22 and 23 runs in their respective accounts. From RCC, Rohit bowled excellent spell taking away four wickets while Muzamil took two. In reply, Ratnuchak chased the total in just 16.3 overs. Jatin played match winning knock of 88 runs while Romy contributed 10-ball 14 runs to the total. Only Rajeev could bowl true line and length from ICC taking away three wickets. For his match winning innings, Jatin was declared man of the match while man of the series trophy went to Imran. The final officiated by Zorawar Singh and Surjit Singh as umpires while Rohit Singh and Jagjit Singh maintained the scorecard. In the final and prize distribution function, Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) and state president BJP, Jugal Kishore Sharma was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies amidst encouragement to the budding cricketers. Speaking to the gathering, the chief guest quoted the exemplary achievements of international cricketer from the state, Surinder Singh Bagal, who belongs to Badhori. He said that the young cricketers must follow the foot prints of Surinder Singh and work hard to achieve the desired results in the world of cricket. He assured all possible help to the organizers of the event.
