| Coalition partners feel the heat of changing political atmosphere | | Opinionated jugglery takes the center stage | | Shakeel A Khan
SRINAGAR, May 11: Nothing is going well in the camps of political parties in Jammu & Kashmir and things seem to be even worse for the coalition partners. Both National Conference and Congress are feeling the heat of changing political atmosphere which has prompted the leaders of both the parties to criticize each other, that too publically. Leaders of NC and Congress don't seem bothered as to which coalition is going to form the next government at the Centre but what actually is giving them uneasy churns is the Assembly elections which are going to be held in the later part of this year. That is why the coalition leaders are making such twisting statements. This particular concern has set Sharif-ud-Din Shariq and Taj Mohi-ud-Din against each other, that too publically proving the analysts right that these parties have forged an alliance out of compulsion. The question that comes to the minds of the people is as to why Congress workers voted in favor of PDP in North and South Kashmir. Some people from Uri while sharing their ideas with Early Times said that Taj Mohi-ud-Din is well aware of the fact that the coming Assembly elections will be a testing time for him. They said that Taj is somewhat perturbed with the fact that since Sajad Ahmad is going to make his political debut from Uri. People close to NC want to know as to what made Taj to make the statement wherein he said that Shariq failed to get as many votes as was expected. Going by this statement it appears that the Health Minister of Jammu & Kashmir was aware about the plans of the Congress workers of not to vote for Shariq. Taj went to the extent of saying that half of National Conference votes went into Muzaffar Hussain Beigh's pocket. People opine that Taj is doing all this to create confusion in the minds of the NC workers and to cause a division among them so that he sails through smoothly in the coming Assembly elections. The strong NC man from Uri, Mohammad Shafi Uri contested the claims of Taj. Shafi Uri said "It is not the fact that the NC votes are divided but it is actually the 80% of the Congress votes that were gifted to the PDP man, hence keeping its tradition of deceptive politics." Taj statement and Shafi Uri’s counter statement clearly indicate that Congress is in no mood to go for alliance in the coming Assembly elections which was made clear by Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad during an election rally in South Kashmir. |
