Biggies trying network connection in Captial for the pristine post Early Times Report
Jammu, May 11: As curtain falls down on biggest democratic exercise of LS polls tomorrow, entire focus shifts to results and speculations for victory of candidates. As the scene for Jammu-Poonch seat strongly indicates victory for BJP candidate Jugal Kishore, this likelihood has pushed a handful of leaders in the state unit of into lobbying for party's highest post- seeking to become president substituting the incumbent chief after he becomes MP. Sources said that upon gauging assessment and mood of electorate and experts for BJP candidate's victory for Jammu seat, senior leaders of BJP much ahead of results have already started a flurry of activity in direction of persuading central leadership in making a choice for party's president. As always, it is same old group of handful leaders who remain in forefront of grabbing and getting the place in hierarchy of functionaries be that as members of elite National Executive or the post of president and even seeking ticket for contesting Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, sources further said. Rat race has already begun even in this coterie where all are contenders for the post of state president replacing Jugal Kishore who shall have to relinquish this responsibility after becoming MP, sources said adding that all are trying to utilize their network of contacts in New Delhi and the quarters that matter in making a final decision for the president of state unit. The choice and decision to this effect, however, assumes significance this time in the wake of Assembly elections scheduled by the end of this year in J&K. The job and functioning of the J&K president also assumes quite an importance from the point of view of BJP led NDA coming to power at Centre following which the policies of new dispensation would have to be followed and catered well in the state where BJP would be contesting elections for Assembly with an energetic mood. However, the flip side of this entire story is that while a handful of leaders are up again for seeking big posts , the workers down the line are showing no enthusiasm for them. Sources said that lack of enthusiasm is also attributed to the fact that almost all the leaders stand exposed in the eyes of the workers in so far as their contribution to just concluded LS polls is concerned. Sources said most of the workers are not in favour of entrusting this reponsibility, particularly to a couple among this group, who they know did not work hard for ensuring victory of party candidates. Workers are also fed up for the fact some of the senior leaders now aspiring to become president sabotaged the spirit and enthusiasm of party functionaries while they gave were supposed to give their best for party candidates. This truth also became implicit when none other than the party's national president Rajnath Singh while campaigning in Udhampur indicated that party was all aware of what and who worked for whom in the LS polls. |
