Early Times Report Kathua, May 11: To protect the forests from fires incidents in Billawar Forest Division, a meeting was held in the office of the Divisional Forest Officer Billawar. The meeting was attended by all the Range Officers of Billawar, Ramkote, Basohli and Bani Ranges. The Divisional Forest Officer Billawar Mohinder Kr. Gupta stressed upon the multi approach to tackle the forest fires. He appreciated the role of Panchayats, local people, NGOs etc. in protecting the green gold. In the meeting it was informed that to protect the forests from fires Divisional, Range level control rooms have been established in each Range. Fire fighting cells have been created in the vulnerable and highly vulnerable areas equipped with Helmets, rackers, water bottles etc. Awareness camps regarding forest fires prevention are being organized in the fire prone areas. Recently camps at Upper Rajwalta, Parnalla and DharDugnoo have been conducted to generate awareness amongst masses. School children are being briefed regarding prevention of forest fires. People of this division are requested to co-operate with forest department in controlling the forest fires and are advised not to throw lighted Beedi, Ciggrettes etc. |
