| ARTO issues notice to erring vehicle owners | | Transporters fleecing passengers | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, May 11 : Acting on various public complaints with regard to non display of fair lists and fleecing passengers travelling on various routes, Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Kishtwar issued general notice to transporters warning them of strict action for overcharging the passengers.As per the details available with "Early Times" ARTO Kishtwar Azhar Amin Zarger issued notice to transporters wide No: ARTO/KTR/2014-15/109-116 stating that all the transporters and commercial vehicle owners operating their vehicles within Kishtwar District directing them to affix rate/fare list on their respective vehicles at conspicuous location. The notice further reads that no vehicle owner shall charge more fare from passengers than the government approved rates and added that those found guilty of overcharging will be strictly dealt with. When contacted, ARTO Kishtwar informed the "Early Times" that the objective of issuing this notice is to curb the menace of overcharging from the passengers, particularly in rural areas of the District. He said that fare list can be availed from his office during all working hours. He said that department is committed on safe guarding the rights of the transporters as well as the passengers. He said that department has also launched a special drive against traffic violators particularly on roads leading to Padder, Chatroo, Thatri, Bhunzwah, Palmar and other local hill routes. He urged the people to approach his office in case any vehicle owner demanded extra fare from them. |
