| AJKPC slams Omar Govt for Rs 300 Cr liability under MGNREGA | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 11 : All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference( AJKPC), an amalgam organization of various Panchayat bodies today slammed Omar Led Jammu and Kashmir coalition government for its failure to clear liability of over Rs. 300 Crore under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Calling it as criminal negligence of the state government for which thousands of labourers under MGNREGA are suffering, Anil Sharma, President of AJKPC said this is not only violation of MGNREGA guidelines and Labour Laws but also amounts to human rights violation. While sharing details with media, Anil informed that as on date, Jammu and Kashmir government owes a total liability of over Rs. 310 crore (Rs 260 cr of Jammu region and Rs. 50 cr of Kashmir) under MGNREGA scheme, the poor men and women are deprived of their right to wage under MGNREGA for no fault of theirs. "The political leadership of the state especially the members of the coalition partners have become totally insensitive to the miseries of the poor people", Anil said. AJKPC leader warned the State government to clear all dues within 15 days or get ready to face a spade of protests across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. " AJKPC won't tolerate this injustice and we give 10 days ultimatum to the J & K government to clear all dues under MGNREGA along with necessary compensation else get ready to face the music." Sharma warned. Further elaborating the issue of pendency of MGNREGA wages, Sharma also cited a letter issued by the ministry of Rural development , Government of India to the secretary, J & K Rural Development Department on Feb 26, 2014 where various directions have been issued to the J & K government including immediately clearing all pending liabilities under MGNREGA, , formulation of unemployment allowance rules, compensation for delay in wage payments and for appointment of Ombudsmen for different districts. Enraged AJKPC leaders also accused that the state government did not bother to pay any heed to these guidelines of the union government resulting into suffering of poor labourers of the state. The AJKPC leaders also condemned the attitude of the Chief Minister and Rural Development minister who remained busy in the electioneering process, completely ignoring the plight of the citizens and rural population in particular. |
