Locals resent apathy of District administration, NHAI

Kathua, May 11 : District administration Kathua has warned National Highway Authority of India of legal action under section 133 of CrPC if it failed to immediately repair and maintain the stretch of National Highway near Kathua which was turning into death trap. The stretch of National Highway from Lakhanpur to Kathua and beyond has accounted for number of deaths due to its poor maintenance and upkeep. The road has been dotted with potholes and water-logging at several places is causing huge inconvenience to thousands of commuters and leading to tragic accidents and the resentment is brewing amongst local public of Kathua against National Highway Authority for its failure to maintain the highway. People give vent to their anguish against the district administration and the NHAI. They resent that various bridges on Highway (Dayala chack, Shar Khud, and several others) that have been completely neglected and are in a shambles leading to tragic accidents. The population residing on either side of Kalibari National Highway at Kathua registered their strong resentment against the administration and NHA and said that It is becoming a nightmare to travel on the Highway, the road is muddy and gets inundated at many places, making it difficult for the vehicles to ply even after a little rain and the large number of potholes become cause of routine tragic accidents. They said that unviable crossings which are seen everywhere at National Highway highlight negligence of both NHAI and District Administration. The pathetic condition of the road is giving tough time to the patients who are referred to Jammu Hospital from Kathua. The road is already congested and the pathetic condition and it has added to the woes of commuters, particularly the ailing patients, as the journey is becoming cumbersome," said commuters.
