SRINAGAR, May 18: While Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is trying to put up a brave face, owning up responsibility for the poll debacle, the rank and file of the party has disappeared into oblivion. Nawai Subah, National Conference headquarter still presents a ghostly look given its drubbing in the parliamentary elections. The vote share the party got from all over the valley speaks volumes about its mis-governance on all fronts. The people of the valley, particularly the youth, seem to have risen against its anti people policies. "The party failed to handle challenges that arose from time to time to time, through a humane approach. Instead of giving relief to the people, it subjected the youth of the state to immense hardships by encouraging Police Raj," said some people at Srinagar while sharing their ideas with Early Times. Early Times talked to many people at Budgam, Srinagar and Ganderbal immediately after the results were announced. Majority of the people said that they heaved a sigh of relief once the results were out. They declared it is a clear mandate against the politics of 'oppression'. The failure of NC, once the premier regional party can be well understood by the fact that it fetched lesser number of votes as compared to PDP from Ganderbal, its bastion, depicting its dark future and it may cause a further division among its voters. The leadership of the NC is enjoying its relationship with a section of people who have exploited the party for their personal means hence causing huge difference between the party and its grass root level workers. These people said that BJP has made strong in roads across the Jammu division including Chenab valley and PDP has gained impressively in the valley signaling an end to the era of the NC. Given these hard realities people predict that more hard days are in store for NC in the coming assembly elections. |
