| Mustafa Kamaal on election outcome | | | Neha
JAMMU, May 18: NC additional general secretary, CM Omar Abdullah's uncle and Farooq Abdullah's brother Mustafa Kamaal is very angry. In fact, he is seething with anger and his anger is directed both against New Delhi and the People's Democratic Party (PDP), which inflicted a humiliating defeat on all the three NC candidates, including Farooq Abdullah. He attributed the defeat of the NC or its decimation in the Valley to New Delhi and the PDP. On May 17, he exhibited his anger in a brazen manner and charged the PDP with playing dirty politics to promote its vested interests. The PDP is playing dirty politics to promote its vested interests, he said, and added that "this party is hell bent upon to eradicate the NC leadership in Kashmir for which they have been paid in Delhi". "The defeat faced by our party was surprising. They (NC leaders) are going to introspect and will take review about such a big defeat," he reportedly said and also indirectly accused the Congress of working against the NC candidates. Earlier, he had openly charged the Congress with working against the NC candidates in Anantnag and Baramulla constituencies and he was snubbed by none other than Farooq Abdullah for leveling this charge against the Congress. Farooq Abdullah had said that the Congress was working for the success of the NC candidates. Mustafa Kamaal did not stop just there. He went on to say that the PDP was created to "demolish the National Conference party in the state". He not only accused the PDP and Delhi of working in tandem for the destruction of the NC, but also leveled a similar charge against certain separatist and religious organizations. "Separatists, Jamaat-e-Islami and other groups directly supported the PDP," he asserted, adding that "Hurriyat and other fundamentalists have helped this party in winning elections". He did not spare JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz even. He tore into him saying that Soz said that "people hate National Conference". He also claimed that the "pre -poll alliance with the Congress might be one factor for our defeat in elections". It appears that the NC leadership has lost its way. The PDP is a political party. It went to the people to seek mandate. The people reposed faith in the PDP and it won magnificently. It is intriguing that the NC accused the PDP and New Delhi of conspiring against the NC, instead of admitting that the NC-Congress coalition government failed to deliver on any front. |
