Cong to roll heads after Azad's truncation through Modi 'wave'
Lal Singh's role under scanner

SRINAGAR, May 18: Indian National Congress, the oldest political party in the country is up against multiple odds following the decimation at the hands of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha 2014 elections.
The state unit of Congress is not far behind as it too faced debacle from BJP. Its candidates were defeated hands down by the BJP candidates with Dr. Jitendra Singh turning out to be 'giant killer' from the Jammu division like Tariq Hameed Karra from the Kashmir division.
Dr. Singh forced a seasoned politician like Ghulam Nabi Azad to eat humble pie as he emerged victorious from Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat. Quite contrary to the expectations the Congress candidate failed to get landslide share of votes from the Chenab valley. As Dr. Singh got appreciable number of votes in the Chenab valley his victory became certain as the counting picked up pace on May 16.
Political analysts say that like National Conference, the state unit of Congress too failed to gauge the mood of people on ground. The party fielded Madan Lal Sharma from Jammu-Poonch parliamentary seat despite the fact that there was strong resentment against this decision.
"It is not always necessary to repeat the candidates who are the sitting parliamentarians. Same happened with the Congress party as far as nomination of Sharma for Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat was concerned. The party took somewhat a brave decision by giving mandate to Azad from the Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat," said political analysts.
Political analysts said that Azad, a former chief minister and health minister in previous dispensation of United Progressive Alliance (UPA) got blown away by the 'Modi Wave' that swept across the country. He could not withstand the 'winds of change' blowing in the country under the Modi 'Tsunami' effect.
"Azad paid for the mistakes or blunders not committed by him. During his tenure as CM he took lot of steps for the overall development of the state but still then lost the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress High Command should probe the role of former MP Chaudhary Lal Singh who has reportedly worked against the interests of the party and the party candidate in run-up to Lok Sabha elections," said political analysts.
It would be in place to mention that Lal Singh tried his best to get the mandate once again and as he failed he played a negative role in the party. He camped for days together at New Delhi to get the mandate, but failed to convince the top leadership in the union capital. He reportedly worked against the interests of Azad in the assembly segments where the former CM was expected to get votes.
The Congress virtually faced humiliation in the Ladakh seat as it lost the seat to the BJP candidate Thupstan Chewang. What was embarrassing is that Congress candidate Tsering Samphel finished fourth and last from this parliamentary seat. Samphel finished after the two candidates with one among them enjoying the support of National Conference.
It is important to note that Peoples Democratic Party got a good vote share in the two parliamentary seats of the Jammu division. The party candidate Yashpal Sharma got more than 1, 30, 000 votes from the Jammu-Poonch seat and the party candidate Arshad Malik also got good number of votes from Udhampur-Doda seat.
