Early Times Report

Jammu, May 18: Notwithstanding the bitterness that has crept in afresh between alliance partners National Conference and Congress post Parliamentary poll debacle across the state, the two parties are still on same page - none among the two is interested in collapse of the government. This is for a reason the motive of which is to make gains on all fronts including 'monetary' one and avail all 'benefits' as fast as possible during the shortest possible in run up to the Assembly elections.
Sources said that while results of LS polls have further pushed apart the allies blaming each other for worst ever drubbing at the hustings, not a singhle minister in the coalition wants fall of government or resignation by the Chief Minister. On the contrary they want continuance of the government, no matter on edge now to grind their own axes on multiple fronts, sources said adding that the desperation is so high for the reason as both the parties have read a bold writing on the wall -their future is grim and the possibility of coming to power or securing good number of seats in the Assembly polls like in previous years is far fetched.
Sources said that it is for the same reason of securing as much gains in their respective departments and ministries they do not want annoyance and blame game to stretched far beyond a point where it would lead to collapse of the government. Sources said despite having been provoked by the PCC president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz who directly blamed NC bad performance in the polls, neither any leader from the NC nor Chief Minister Omar Abdullah himself has reacted over it which is something strange and contrary to a practice seen in the past when NC leaders would get highly provoked to the extent of calling names to Congress party and its leadership.
Sources said since there is now very limited time left for Assembly polls and 2-3 months left for MCC to be reimposed by Election Commission, those in the government want to 'make best' of this period in many ways also for the reason that they realize it fully this is the only opportunity to avail on the proverbial lines of 'make hay while the sun shines'. Sources also said that those at the helm of affairs are set to make money by resorting to practices like unwarranted transfers, giving plum postings to choicest officers for own benefits and even accruing huge gains from ongoing development projects and schemes in many ways. It is going to be a phase that would witness loot and plunder of the state exchequer in many ways and they would do without any deterrence as both the parties are aware accountability is the last thing they can face in this state. The economic condition of the state which is already in weak is going to suffer badly unless new government at the centre devises some mechanism to ensure utter transparency at all levels, at least in centrally sponsored schemes and development projects.
