| Massive landslide on Kishtwar-Batote road, traffic suspended | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 18: Traffic on Kishtwar-Batote National Highway (NH) remained suspended throughout day today due to massive landslide at Drabshala some 25 KM from Kishtwar. Due to this, Kishtwar valley remained cut off from the rest of the state leaving hundreds of vehicles stranded. Landslide was triggered after the area witnessed heavy rains in recent past as a result of which the 110 KM Kishtwar-Batote National Highway suffered massive damages causing inconvenience to the people travelling to Doda and Kishtwar Districts of Jammu province. Due to the landslide that took place at around 6 AM today, due to triggering of big boulders, huge portion of the road was badly damaged. Even though the GREF authorities put men and machinery in service to restore the road, but fail to achieve success in opening the road till late in the evening. Reacting to the continuous road blockade on Kishtwar-Batote road, Youth Congress leader Thakur Randeep Bhandari blamed the Central agency, General Reserve Engineering Force (GREF) for worst condition of roads in entire Kishtwar and Doda region. He said that the GREF which is responsible for maintaining 110 KM Batote-Doda-Kishtwar National Highway, 85 KM Kishtwar-Sinthan Road and 65 KM Kishtwar-Padder road are using sub standard material in road construction which is the cause of frequent collapsing of the NH. He added that GREF has failed to maintain the National Highway as a result of which people are suffering badly. He said that 110 KM National Highway has sunk at more than 20 places and required immediate attention. |
