Kathua, May 29: An extension lecture on "Tree Talk Travels, Interpretation of natural heritage" was organized in the Campus of Vivekananda College of Education today. The resource person invited to deliver the lecture was O.P. Sharma IFS, CCF, Ecotourism. Eminent dignitaries who attended the lecture were Dr. Sudershan Kumar Gupta Chairman Vivekenanada College of Education, Dr. Anju Sharma Principal of the college, Vijaya Thakur lecturer G.G.H.S. Kathua, Shashi Paul & Rakesh Dogra. Besides staff and students of the college, students of Govt. Girls Higher Sec. School also attended the lecture. In his welcome address Dr. Anju Sharma introduced O.P. Sharma to the audience and said that nature as a matter of fact maintains ecological processes automatically with no cost to us. Besides this it provides a genetic library of information about ecology which man could not reproduce. During his lecture O.P. Sharma provided information about various Tree Talks conducted by the department in order to make general public aware about the lesser known traditional trees which are culturally important and have medicinal values. He talked about rare trees like Sita Ashoka tree, Parijat tree, Cosmetic herbs, Sacred tree, Mamek, Pranki etc. He also talked about figs, green pigeon, fish, kingfisher etc. According to him inhuman activities have been responsible for elimination of many species, natural catastrophies to play their part in doing a lot of harm to this great treasure. |
