| Jugal to continue as state unit chief of BJP | | Leaders lobbying for post disappointed | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 29: BJP is well looking for a suitable alternative for the coveted post of president at the national level after incumbent chief Rajnath Singh's name was included in the Council of Union ministers. However, no such change is going to take place at the state unit of party even as lobbying for the same has started for quite some time, much before the LS poll results were declared. Incumbent president Jugal Kishore Sharma who is MP as well, shall continue to head the BJP at the state level. Sources within the party said there is no indication from any quarter from the central leadership that J&K shall see change of guard which suggests Jugal will continue to hold this responsibility entrusted to him by the central leadership over a year ago. Earlier there was some buzz with respect to state unit in for having a new president in the wake of speculations that Jugal might get ministerial berth at centre which would have kept him pre occupied in the new assignment. However, after Dr Jitendra Singh's elevation as MOS, that possibility stands completely ruled out said the sources adding that this has however dashed the hopes a group of senior leaders who were vying to secure the post of president replacing Jugal Kishore Sharma. Sources said the decision to retain Jugal as state president has also been taken by the central leadership keeping in view Assembly elections in few months from now. The leadership is happy the way Jugal has conducting his duty in a dedicated and selfless manner, something which is required for the Assembly polls, said the sources. Jugal is exepcted to work hard and devote more time to party related matters said the sources adding that he can do that easily as barring the time when Parliament session is on, he can spare ample time to state unit of which he continues to be head. However, the decision to retain Jugal as state president has disappointed many in hierarchy of party including those who are much senior to Jugal and aspiring to get this coveted post back for a couple of reasons, sources said. With Assembly elections scheduled this year, they are aware the state president shall have some say in distribution of tickets to candidates, said the sources adding that the entire rank and file of the party is this time upbeat over performance of party in LS polls which has raised the prospects of an impressive performance in the Assembly polls as well. Moreover, there is group which of late has been nourishing a negative feeling of having been sidelined in many vital matters and decisions at the state level, sources said. This is a scenario which is contrary to what they have seen in the past when only this group used to be at the helm of everything and all others would remain pushed to wall. Now with continuance of Jugal as state president, these leaders are apprehensive of their isolation particularly at a time when crucial elections are due by the end of the year, said the sources, adding that this speaks why many are not happy with decision of party leadership at centre.. |
