| Lok Sabha loss in Jammu province | | NC puts blame on Cong | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 29: Taking its coalition partner head-on, National Conference (NC) has blamed Congress for the poll debacle in Jammu province. According to sources, Provincial President of NC Devinder Rana on his return to Jammu claimed at the party headquarters in an informal meeting with the workers about NC having done much better than Congress. They added that Rana talked about NC having done exceedingly well in Jammu province by retaining traditional vote share in all the Assembly segments of both Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary seats. Sources further said that Rana made a mention of Vijaypur, Suchetgarh, Marh and Nagrota Assembly segments while stressing his point that NC had performed much better than Congress. They disclosed that Rana went to the extent of saying that most of the vote which both the Congress candidates got on the two Lok Sabha seats was polled by the NC workers as well as sympathisers. Regarding Rajouri and Poonch districts where PDP has done much better than NC, sources said that Rana blamed the Congress workers for having worked against the party candidate Madan Lal Sharma. Sources said that Rana asked the workers not to get disheartened while claiming that NC would sweep Assembly elections in Jammu province and emerge as the single largest party. However, unconvinced by the narrative of Rana, a senior NC leader told Early Times that party has been completely rooted out from its traditional bases. "Ground is slipping beneath but sycophants are still talking about NC sweeping in Jammu region. By claiming that Madan got NC vote and Congress did not vote for him, we are either trying to fool ourselves or saving our skin. It is better to accept reality as early as possible so that repair work starts at the earliest," added the leader. |
