JAMMU, May 29: The City of Temples today recorded season's maximum 41.8 Degree Celsius temperature thus forcing the Jammuites to stay indoors. "The mercury has started rising in the state with Jammu witnessed season's maximum 41.8 Degree Celsius today and minimum was recorded 24.4 Degree Celsius," a MeT official here said. He said that the temperature continuously kept rising for the past 4-5 days and this afternoon it crossed the 40 Degree mark. Earlier on May 1, the temperature was recorded maximum 40.3 Degree Celsius. "There will be no respite in the rising temperature in the coming days head and hot weather conditions will prevail," said an official. The blistering heat being experienced in the winter capital of the state continues to torment people, forcing them to stay indoors. The plains are witnessing abnormal heat conditions for the past one week with the mercury soaring 4 to 7 degrees above normal. The sizzling conditions have thrown life out of gear with people preferring to remain indoors for most part of the day. While the roads wore deserted look with scanty public and private traffic, the business, even in the busiest markets, remained at low ebb like the past three days of severe heat conditions being experienced in Jammu and adjoining districts of the region. Meanwhile, unscheduled power curtailment by the PDD is adding to the people's miseries. In several areas of the city, power cuts have become intolerable. Health experts maintain that people, especially children and old-aged persons, should not move out during the day time and avoid working in the open without wearing protective clothing, hats and applying sunscreens on their bodies. "Lot of fluids and fruits should be taken as a protection from heat. People should avoid moving in the open or walking long distances during afternoon", said one of the doctor at Government Medical College (GMC). Similarly, harsh climatic conditions have affected all the walks of life in Jammu city. The city roads wear deserted look, particularly during the day time, as people prefer to remain indoors to avoid the blazing heat. |
