| After making Valley free from NC, PDP diverts its attention towards Jammu | | Yash Pal Sharma given over-all charge of Jammu province | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 29 After making Kashmir Valley free from National Conference, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has diverted its attention towards Jammu province to attain majority on its own in the coming Assembly elections. By appointing veteran leader Yash Pal Sharma as general secretary of the state incharge Jammu province, PDP leadership has given hints to take Jammu region seriously. Sharma, who is member of the Legislative Council, has secured respectable votes in the just concluded Parliament elections which he had contested as party candidate of Jammu-Poonch seat. Despite a strong Modi Wave, Sharma managed good number of votes in areas where PDP is weak, especially in Jammu and Samba districts. Credible sources in PDP said that party leadership has decided to give much importance to Jammu province because this region is going to play decisive role in the coming Assembly elections. The PDP leadership was not happy with the style of working of the present leadership in Jammu so it was ultimately decided to handover command to experienced hand Yash Pal Sharma. "Party leadership has authorised Yash Pal Sharma to constitute new committees by involving young, youthful leadership and honest leadership", sources said and added that massive reshuffle in Jammu PDP on cards after appointment of Mr Sharma as general secretary. Credible sources said that PDP leadership has already identified a dozen winnable seats in Jammu province which included some five six seats of Poonch and Rajouri and some seats from erstwhile Doda district. Post of general secretary for Jammu province was lying vacant for the last six months after the then general secretary Thakur Balbir Singh had jumped over into "sinking ship" Congress. In the just completed Parliamentary elections National Conference was completely routed in Kashmir Valley after PDP has won all the three seats of Valley. |
