| Irregular power, water supply spark protest against PDD, State Government | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 29: Irked over frequent unscheduled power cuts, the Jammuites today staged protests against the Jammu and Kashmir government over frequent power cuts and irregular water supply by blocking roads in several localities of the winter capital of state and across the district. The residents of Janipur area of the city staged a rally demanding uninterrupted power supply and shouted slogans against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the state Power Development Department (PDD) and staged demonstration here at main chowk of Janipur today.'The protestors were alleging that Janipur area has been without electricity for last three days on account of breaking down of the transformer catering to the area. The technical snag of the transformer yet has not been rectified by the staff of the PDD inspite of continuous request made by prominent personages and residents of the area. The public had been requesting the PDD staff and powers that be to take remedial steps but to no avail. The protestors blocked the traffic at the main chowk of the Janipur for more than two hours and were demanding immediate action against the PDD officers. Meanwhile the residents of Maheshpura also held protest in order to show their anger against unscheduled power cuts in scorching heat of summer. They also raised slogans against the government and PDD. The protestors on the occasion said Omar Abdullah and his cabinet members put tall claims of huge power generations but yet have not got acquainted with the state of power supply in the state and this is one of the major causes for NC-Congress humiliating defeat would be clear to him as people were left to suffer in sweltering heat of jammu and biting cold in Srinagar and Leh-Ladakh for the want of electricity. Meanwhile Residents of Rehari today held a protest against the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department to register their resentment against acute shortage of drinking water. Protestors raised slogans against the department and minister Sham Lal Sharma Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control. On e of the protestors Ram Kumar of Purani Mandi said these days when the temperature is crossing plus 40°C mark the department had failed to ensure its regular supply. Asha Rani of Kali Jani locality said she made many rounds of the PHE Dept but the officials concerned seemed busy with pleasing the PHE Minister rather than listening to the common man. An employee of the PHE said the minister was making all efforts to harass the Class IV employees on one pretext or the other. He said the minister, instead of redressing the problems of the common man, was threatening the employees of drastic action, which was shameful on part of such a responsible person. |
