Jammu, July 1: Notwithstanding his defeat in LS polls, Congress High Command has once again reposed full faith and trust in the capability and leadership qualities of party's old war horse Ghulam Nabi Azad . Azad has been made Chairman of Election Campaign Committee for forthcoming Assembly polls in J&K , the formal announcement of which will be made shortly. The crucial decision has come as a big disappointment for loyalists of Soz camp who were vocal for some time in projecting his name for the big task as the responsibility entrusted upon Azad is indicative of more than just one one big decision by the Congress High command.
Sources said Ghulam Nabi Azad's name has been cleared for the highly important post of Chairman of the Election Campaign Committee which will be set up soon to steer the party through the entire course of Assembly elections in all the three regions of the state. Sources further said while discussion was going on within concerned quarters at New Delhi before finalizing things in this direction, it was Ambika Soni who remained instrumental in pushing Azad's name for this crucial responsibility. Sources also said that off the two choices between Azad and PCC chief Prof Saif-u-Din Soz to head the campaign panel, Azad's name emerged as final choice after weighing certain political factors in the larger interests of the party.
Sources further said while Azad heading the poll campaign panel has saddened the Soz faction for apparent reasons, the disappointment is also for the fact that Azad shall have more say in almost all matters related to polls as the preparations get expedited with a multi pronged strategy of the party. Azad shall have complete say in not only recommending the names for mandate but also in finalizing names where dilemma persists for various reasons. Sources said despite Soz faction trying hard to project Soz's name for leading the parting from front for Assembly polls in the state, it is Soni's wish that has prevailed ultimately as she wanted Azad to be at the helm of affairs when Congress takes up the things in aggressive manner shortly. It is learnt Soni has recommended that Azad is not only adept in managing the things at hustings but on account of his acceptability far more than Soz in all the three regions, his name suited to high command for taking over the reigns of the polls which are very crucial for survival of Congress in J&K
