Sandeep Bhat JAMMU, July 1: It is true that the crime against women particularly domestic violence against women in jammu is on rise from the last four years. There are number of incidents throughout the country which shows an upward trend in crime against women particularly in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and domestic violence in Jammu. Talking to SHO Women Cell, Arti Thakur, this correspondent came to know about the increasing graph of domestic violence against women in Jammu. As per the figure provided by the said officer, in the year 2011, cases register in women cell were 32, challaned 17 and under investigation number of cases were 13. While in 2012, the number of cases registered were 36, in which 24 were challaned and 12 were under investigation and in the year 2013, number of cases register in women cell were 53, where 23 cases were challaned and 30 cases were under investigation and shocking is the graph of year 2014 upto June... total 45 cases were register so far thus a huge increase in number of cases. This is an indication of crime against women on increase in Jammu. The said lady officer further said that per day we are receiving around 20 to 30 number of simple complaints and try to give solutions in maximum number of cases. As you know this is a councelling centre and we try to give councelling to aggrieved party. Most of the people who come here belong to every section of society whether poor or rich, educated and uneducated, and from every religion like Hindus including Kashmiri Pandits, Sikhs, Muslims, Christians and others. Domestic violence has become now a day to day affair which needs to be stopped at any cost. Mostly the victims are women folk but in some cases, men are also become victims. From the last six months, this cell received 534 simple complaints, she added. The issues are very small but they get snowball into big matters. The society should try to take remedial measures so that the domestic violence in particular and crime against women gets minimised and number of awareness programmes should be conducted. |
