JAMMU, July 5: Quarterfinals line-up has been drawn with the entry of New Challengers in the last eight stages today in the ongoing Chevrolet Cup Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at KC Public School ground, here. Other teams already placed in the quarterfinals stages are KC Sports Club, International Club, Jammu Cricket Club (JCC), Rainawari Cricket Club, Kishen Chand Cricket Club (KCCC) and Krishna Cricket Club. Now, in the knock-out stages, KC Sports Club shall take on JCC while Rainawari shall face International Club. Similarly, New Challenger shall be playing against Strikers and KCCC shall meet Krishna Club. Earlier, in the last league round, played today, New Challenger defeated Yankee Club by six wickets. Batting first, Yankee set a target of 146 runs for six wickets. Pranav and Akash were main contributors to the total with 38 and 33 runs respectively while Abhay added 26 runs. From New Challenger, Ram Dayal took three wickets while Manjeet Singh bagged two. In reply, New Challenger chased the total in 18.5 overs losing only two wickets. Ashu played unbeaten innings of 69 runs coming off 45 balls including two sixes and eight fours while Gokul Baru contributed 39-ball 45 runs not out. From Yankee Club, Jerry and Manpreet Singh shared the wickets. For his match winning knock of 69 runs, Ashu was declared man of the match. Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Star XI outplayed Chelsia Club by seven wickets. Batting first, Chelsia Club made 135 runs for six wickets in a match reduced to 18 overs aside. Vinit Raina played fine innings of 53 (off 31 balls, 4x6, 3x4) runs, followed by Deepak Decker, who contributed 22 runs. From Star XI, Robin, Vinit, Sumit, Zulfi and Vivek shared apiece each. Later, Star XI chased the target making 137 runs losing three wickets in 16.1 overs. AD and Robin remained top scorers with 28 runs each while King added 26 runs and Vishal made 24. KP claimed two wickets. For his all-round performance, Robin was named man of the match. Today's matches officiated by the technical penal including Abhijot Singh Bedi, Sandeep Manchanda, Sadiq Hussain Malik and Rajinder Singh as umpires while Sohail Yusuf maintained the score. |
