Govt issues misleading advertisement on achievements of Health Deptt

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, July 5: An advertisement released today by National Rural Health Mission boasts of achievements under NRHM. Figures have been given, which according to experts are misleading. The picture is not as rosy as projected by the advertisement.
Much has been written and said about the failure of the mission in Jammu Kashmir. However, a unique protest staged by the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) medicos last year stunned the Government. They refused Government's proposal of a salary hike. "We will work on our previous salaries but please pay us in time," the medicos conveyed the message to a stunned Government.
This is the first time when someone has taken such a stand and this is being perceived as a slap on the face of the Government. This has also exposed the flaws in running the NRHM scheme.
Pertinent to mention, the NRHM doctors are not paid salary on time. The Government has now launched six-month-performance test which is going to decide the fate of the doctors.
Interestingly the Government has suggested a payment of Rs 55000 to an MBBS doctor posted in an inaccessible but the NRHM doctors are not paid.
The state Government has been rebuked time and again for its failure to implement the NRHM effectively.
The other version of the programme which covers the urban areas (NUHM) is also a failure. Most of the cases in rural Kashmir are referred to Srinagar or Jammu for specialized treatment. The facilities in district headquarters are not satisfactory notwithstanding the NUHM.
The medicos and the AYUSH candidates appointed under the mission have been left high and dry by the authorities.
The advertisement further boasts of providing financial assistance to 75 patients. A patient from Jammu, however, is dying for want of treatment. His case was recommended by the Divisional Commissioner but till date nothing has moved for the poor patient.
