| Party welcomes retired bureaucrats, police officers with open arms | | All roads lead to PDP! | | Kunal Shrivatsa
JAMMU, July 5: Upbeat with its performance in the recently held Lok Sabha polls wherein it bagged all the three seats in Kashmir region, the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) is on a roll these days as one after the other a whole lot of former bureaucrats and retired police officers are embracing the party fold. After the Lok Sabha election concluded, the PDP leadership with an eye on ensuing Assembly polls, so far, has managed to influence several retired bureaucrats and police officials to join the party. And, the latest to join the PDP bandwagon was retired Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Kamal Saini, who made his entry into the party in presence of party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed here today. It is pertinent to mention here that during Kamal Saini’s tenure under different positions in various departments , the super cop had come up with great achievements and feats and had shot to limelihht for being the most upright and honest officers. Many cases under his tenure were brought to logical conclusion that were appreciatedby the public of Jammu and Kashmir and his services were recognised all over. Before Saini, another former top cop Raja Aijaz Ali Khan, who retired as IGP Crime, joined PDP on June 27 last and managed to secure a candidature from Uri Assembly segment for the forthcoming Assembly polls. Prior to Khan's entry, a former bureaucrat FC Bhagat, who held the rank of Deputy Commissioner during his service career, joined PDP on June 20 last. Upon joining the party, Bhagat was chosen as party candidate to contest Assembly polls from Bishnah constituency. Earlier on June 11 last, Bashir Ahmad Runyal, a former bureaucrat who held the rank of Commissioner/Secretary at the time of his retirement joined PDP. Runyal, who has strong social base in the erstwhile Doda district in general and Ramban district in particular, gets rewarded with a party ticket from Banihal Assembly segment. Not to forget, PDP has fielded another bureaucrat Mehboob Iqbal as its candidate from Bhaderwah Assembly constituency. With a number of former bureaucrats already up its sleeve including Swami Raj and Naeem Akhtar, the figure of fresh entrants to PDP is growing at a rapid pace and it could be gauged from the fact that on an average every week from the month of June either a retired top ranked police officer or an ex-bureaucrat has joined the party. By including former bureaucrats and retired police officers into party fold, the PDP leadership is trying to send signals to its opponents that party's popularity is on the rise and this is the sole reason that the 'cream of the society' is getting attracted towards PDP ahead of Assembly polls. |
