SRINAGAR, July 5: In gross violation of the traffic rules, an outsider private cash management company is using private vehicles for commercial purposes in Jammu and Kashmir. "Checkmate" cash management services private limited, a Chandigarh based private company is using dozens of private vehicles bearing the private registration numbers of the Punjab Government for commercial purposes in twin capital states of Srinagar and Jammu under the nose of the authorities, yet no one has taken note of this serious traffic offence. Reports emanating from several quarters suggest that the Punjab-based cash management company is using dozens of private vehicles for commercial purposes in Srinagar and Jammu cities. Reports highlight that the Punjab-based vehicles are plying on J&K Roads without paying road tax and other commercial taxes warranted under the traffic rules. Reports said that SSP Traffic Srinagar has seized a number of such vehicles used by the cash management company for ferrying cash to banks and other financial institutions on daily basis. However, the traffic police in Jammu city was maintaining criminal silence over the issue and has not ceased any such vehicle illegally plying on Jammu roads so for. Sources in the traffic department confirmed to Early Times that a number of vehicles of the Checkmate cash management company bearing registration number of Punjab are plying on Srinagar roads and a few vehicles have been ceased by the department. "While checking the papers of these vehicles it was confirmed that the vehicles are neither registered with the J&K government nor have paid road taxes to the J&K government" a senior traffic official told Early Times. He said that the vehicles used by the cash management company are plying illegally and fraudulently on Srinagar roads which is a punishable offence under the provisions of the law. Sources, however, said there is no record with the state government of the outside vehicles plying on J&K roads for commercial purposes with private companies. They said that though there are hundreds of such vehicles plying on J&K roads with many private companies but none of these companies have approached J&K traffic department for registration or at least for paying road tax. "There are hundreds of heavy and light motor vehicles plying on Srinagar and Jammu roads which are registered with Punjab, Chandigarh, and Maharashtra governments but none of there is no record of such vehicles nor has anybody approached to the traffic department for registration of these vehicles" the traffic department official said. He said that some vehicles are even carrying fake registration plates. |
