| Prof Chaman Lal expresses concern over civil affairs | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, July 5:Expressing serious concern over the deteriorating civil affairs, the former Union Minister and MLA, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta has held the Govt polices responsible for this sad situation. According to press release, putting a question mark on the sincerity of the ruling leaders and Gupta asked them to explain that why the elections to the local bodies have not been held and where and how the large sums of central grants for urban developmental purposes are being spent. Prof. Gupta was responding to the complaints of his Jammu West Assembly Constituency activists who incouse of their meeting listed problem of their respective areas. He said a strange situation has been created by this coalition dispensation. Almost all developmental activities have come to a halt. Earlier rupees ten lakhs were provided for repair and other works in each ward of the corporation but these have been stopped. Where this money is being spent, it is anybody's guess. The sanitation conditions are in a bad shape. The condition of link roads and drains are far from satisfactory, he added and further said there is little reply when all these problems are raised with the concerned high ups. Prof. Gupta also said that there is hardly any rationale in providing funds for constituency development. He said rupees one crore are put at disposal of each MLA ignoring strength of voters as also the area to be covered. In this regard, he pointed out that Jammu West Constituency is having about 1.88 Lakhs voters spread over vast areas including many undeveloped. But on the contrary many Assembly Constituencies having just only 50,000 voters with small areas too, are being provided equally rupees one crore as CDF. He said in Jammu West all funds at his disposal have been earmarked and almost spent. The activists listed various problems of their areas including those of nullahs, drainage, electricity, water and ration as also that of congestion. |
