| Enhance honorarium within a week or face us in electoral battle: AJKPC | | | Mohammad Mukaram SRINAGAR, July 8: Annoyed by the state Government’s negligent approach All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference has threatened to field their own candidates in every constituency in the coming Assembly elections or to support any other party if the Government does not enhance their honorarium within a week. “We will show this Government our powers if it does not increase honorarium of Sarpanches to Rs. 10,000 and Panches Rs. 5,000 per month within one week. We will launch our candidates independently throughout the Valley, fight and defeat this Government with full majority,” said Shafiq Mir, President all Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference. Raising banner of revolt against the ruling coalition Government the Valley based Sarpanches and Panches have announced to teach lesson in the coming Assembly elections as they have seen the results in LS polls. “We are giving one week deadline to the state Government to raise the honorarium of Panchayat members and to take the decision regarding the empowerment of Panchayats or to get ready for the consequences in the coming Assembly elections,” Mir said while addressing media persons here. Mir alleged that state Government is making them scapegoats for their own political interest. He said that for last three years they have been requesting the Government to trace the killers of Sarpanches and Panches. He added that instead of tracing killers the political parties are blaming one another. Mir said that when Bharatiya Janta Party was not in power, members of the party were making big promises with the Panchayat representatives. He said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi visited Valley but did not bother to talk to the Panchayat representatives or common people. “We have already lost our nine colleagues (Sarpanches) to the bullets of unknown gunmen. An inquiry should be conducted by National Investigation Agency (NIA) as to find out the killers of Sarpanches in the state of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Mir. |
